Materials Manufacturing Process

Asphalt Shingles are manufactured using a fiberglass reinforcement mat, waterproof asphalt compounds, and protective mineral granules. The fiberglass base provides structural stability, while the asphalt coating forms a water-resistant barrier. Colored ceramic-coated granules cover the exposed surface, helping protect against ultraviolet radiation while creating the textured appearance commonly seen on residential roofs.

Manufacturing begins by feeding fiberglass mats through coating equipment, where heated asphalt blended with mineral fillers is applied to the material. While the asphalt remains hot, colored mineral granules are distributed across the upper surface and pressed into place. A fine mineral backing helps prevent the finished shingles from sticking together. Depending on the product design, additional laminating and adhesive application processes may be included.

The coated material passes through cooling equipment before being cut into individual shingle profiles. Finished pieces are inspected for dimensions, coating consistency, and granule coverage, then stacked and packaged for transportation to roofing distributors and construction projects.
